Environmental Storytelling - Trip to a lively winter public park

After being so inspired by the desolate quarry landscape I felt like I wanted a contrast, I wanted a place with life, with the charming aura of nature that the quarry lacked massively.

So I googled popular leeds public parks and I came across Golden Acre Park. I caught a bus and had a walk round.

The park was buzzing with life.

A beautiful landscape around a manmade lake, habitated by all kinds of birds; Geese, Ducks, Coots, Seagulls and then in the trees and bushes I saw more beautiful birds such as Blue Tits, Jays, Sparrows, Greenfinches, Chaffinches and Robins. I was surrounded. Such a contrast to the desolate quarry.

I sat on a bench and sketched for a good hour;

Examining different birds and the landscape.

QUACK!

It was an extremly popular park with tonnes of walkers.

I also came across a patch of snowbells;

They were so pretty and really showed how in Winter when everything is dying, things can still be beautiful. Beauty rising up out of the decomposing leaves.

This plant reminded me of fire. The intense reds and yellows, burning amber, so contrasting to see in winter.

A section of the park was in a small little greenhouse;

Where wild plants grow.

and Koi carp thrive.

I also came across a beautiful garden.. Which was pretty desolate of flowers because of the winter season, but these were still beautiful.

I was very interested in the texture of moss.

That I sat and did some 15min thumbnail sketches, examining its texture in pencil.

The moss ontop of a shed looked like a little alien world, it was beautiful.

Looking like tentacles

Spiny branches with no leaves.

The desolate flower garden;

I found the ripples of another manmade pond beautiful as bubbles produced a current that distorted the reflection of the trees.

Dying flowers;
