Samaritans "Doodles" Advert

This is an animated TV campaign advertisment for The Samaritans called "Doodles".

Doodles is an appropriate name as the whole animation is like one big moving doodle, the media of biro gives it that feel, along with it being on lined paper, like someone is drawing mindlessly, bored on a workbook whilst the teacher talks. Complementing this feel is how at the end the question "Is something on your mind?" is asked. Like the doodles are a projection from the inner workings of whats going on in their head, or a distraction from it.

The character is humanoid but remains anonymous. Maybe this could reflect how when something is on your mind so bad, that it changes who you are as a person, the depression or whatever your feeling mascerades your real personality.

The doodles take over and the character suddenly is engulfed in water, as if they are drowning in their own thoughts, their own thoughts pull them under. Then the character feels better and starts to climb up a staircase, to only get knocked back down again by their own mind.

What this animation tells us is how the mind can be our own worst enemy.

The animation ends with a girls face with a collage of black and white image covering her face, representing all her troubles in juxtaposition all over her features.

I love the variety of messages and motifs that are used in this animation, it has a great long-lasting impact after watching it and leaves you thinking, this is something I would like to achieve.
