I love these series of photographs by David Ryle, where he has creatively incorporated a steam like, condensation texture onto his photos, this creates an emotional feeling as it distorts the photos in blots of water, this has connotations of absence, as the droplets of water can reflect tears which erode the photo like someone is crying over a photograph of a loved one, like they have passed over or are no longer with them in another form.
This comes as inspiration for me as yet again it plays with the aspect of loss of sight, but also the steamed effect that you get when you wear glasses is also a very interesting aspect to consider, as when you look through steamed glasses you get distorted concepts of the world around you.
"I had missed the controlled environment that it gives. The art director Gemma Fletcher and I came up with a few concepts and the stylist and producer Natasha Freeman found some great models, so we spent a day shooting with different types of glass and water effects, and it was really quite a freeform shoot that allowed us to arrive at some quite interesting shots.’
