Production Diary 13 - Alien Pan Sequence

This is my final scene in my whole animation. It consists of a parallax style pan over the astronauts shoulder onto the dark side of the moon (making it the defining scene to the name of my animation - The other side) where he sees the big bright eyes of the moonling's as they hide in the moons shadow.

I first tested what it would look like to keep the white suit of the astronaut, and found it didn't suit with the dark shadow, it stands out too much.

So I kept with the shadowed aesthetic for my astronaut.

I then applied a field blur to unfocus him from the lens seen as he is too close.

Then I had my final scene;

I am very happy with how it looks, I love the blinking of the eyes, yet again slow and laboured which is their trait. I also like how there are 2 blinks close together then a second pause till the distant eyes blink quite close towards the end. I also find the out of focus blur quite effective, along with the parallax I feel it really defines perspective.
