Januz Miralles - Art using glass

Januz Miralles photographs a subject through glass with water, ink and oil poured over the surface of the glass. It gives the effect that the subjects face is melting and corroding, like they are disappearing from the world in a morbid manner as the greyscale connotes. But it could also reflect the subject feeling as if they are corroding emotionally, the blackness connoting of negativity and darkness within the mind, gradually causing it to break down and melt.

In the top piece of art, the womans face is one of shock and pain, like something is physically corroding her and she reacts with hurt. The paint smudges and swipes could also reflect a mixture of negative feelings overwhelming her, so much so its like its absorbing her.

I feel Miralles artwork is highly emotional and beautiful. I especially love how he uses the medium of glass to visually distort an image, quite a contradiction when glass' usual connotations are to allow us to see things.
