Using a real astronaut as a reference, I created my own illustration of an astronaut keeping with the style I wanted to achieve and the style of my Moonlings.
In my first development I completely thinned out the proportions of the astronaut, making his suit almost like a morph suit. Because of this I enlarged certain features for exaggeration cartoon purposes, like the helmet, gloves and shoes. Because of such drastic changes I stuck an antenna on his head so the audience easily distinguish him as an astronaut. I also added the oxygen backpack and buttons on his front, inspired from the reference drawing.
Development 2 - I thinned and elongated the legs further and added platform boots.
Till I was happy with the end character. I wanted my astronaut to look as human as possible so the audience don't confuse him as an alien on the moon. I feel the antenna could give the wrong signs of this and could actually have the reverse effects of what I intended as people could misjudge that as an alien antenna.... So I will consider deleting this...
I will also seek feedback from peers as to what their opinions are on my space man being "man" enough.
I then digitally rendered him in the traditional white outfit, to yet again make him distinguishable as an astronaut by the audience, and I was happy with the results.
